France's state civil aviation university, founded in 1949. Its EPL airline-pilot course is an integrated ATPL of about 24 months, financed by the state: students pay only yearly tuition (€1,500 in 2026), housing and meals. Entry is by competitive exam with very few places (about 20 a year across the three routes in 2026), and is open to EU and EEA nationals only. Theory is taught in Toulouse and flying at seven training centres across France; ENAC also trains cadets for airlines.

Things that don't line up

Not necessarily a problem — but worth asking about in writing.

  • Free or not

ENAC's programme sheet calls the EPL free and its pilot page says it is financed by the state, while the 2026 notices charge €1,500 a year in tuition. The flying itself is paid by ENAC.

    ENAC · ENAC · ENAC
  • Fleet size

    96 aircraft (2023 report and key-figures page), 'more than 100' (pilot-training page), 130 in 2015, and a planned future fleet of 72.

  • Number of centres

The pilot-training page says seven practical training centres while listing nine sites; press says eight.

  • Air France cadets

ENAC announced 60 cadets with 9 months of theory in April 2018, and 72 cadets a year with 8 months of theory in October 2018.

  • EPL/U diploma

The 2026 notice asks for a Bac+3, BTS or DUT; the programme sheet says a Bac+2 scientific diploma.

  • Room counts

    Grenoble 60 or 55 rooms, Saint-Yan 75 or 70, Carcassonne 52 or 50, depending on the page.
