Terms of use
The rules for using School Metar: who we are, what we are and aren't, how rankings and reviews work, how to report content, and the terms for flight schools.
Last updated 1 November 2026
In short
Information, not approval
We compare schools. We are not an aviation authority and not a party to your contract with a school.
Free for students
Searching, comparing and sending enquiries costs you nothing.
Sponsored is always labelled
Paid placement never changes a school's approval status, facts or reviews.
Report a problem
Tell us about wrong or illegal content and we'll act on it and tell you what we did.
Who we are
School Metar is provided by:
[operator legal name] · [legal form]
Address: [registered address]
Tax number: [NIF/NIPC]
Email: [contact email]
This information is given under the EU e-Commerce Directive (Portuguese Decree-Law 7/2004). Our single point of contact for users and authorities under the Digital Services Act (Articles 11–12) is the email above or our contact form. We communicate in English and Portuguese.
What School Metar is and isn't
School Metar is an independent information and comparison service about flight training in Europe. It helps you research schools and contact the ones you choose.
- We are not an aviation authority. We don't approve, certify or audit training organisations. Approval status comes from the national authorities we cite.
- We are not a flight school or a school's agent. Any training contract is between you and the school, under the school's own terms.
- We are funded by schools. Schools can buy paid plans that improve how their profile is presented. This is how the service stays free for students; see “How results are ordered” below.
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Accuracy of information
Every fact on a profile shows its source and a status: Verified, School reported, Unconfirmed, Estimated or Not provided. How we verify data explains each one.
Information can still be incomplete or out of date. Before you sign anything or pay, confirm approvals, course content, prices and conditions directly with the school and the relevant aviation authority. Found a mistake? Request a correction.
How results are ordered
As required by EU consumer law (Directive 2005/29/EC, Article 7(4a)) and the Digital Services Act (Article 27), these are the main parameters that decide order:
- Search results are sorted alphabetically by default. You can re-sort by number of programmes, fleet size, runway length, how complete a profile is, last update, distance or published price. Filters only include or exclude schools; they never rank them.
- Home page selections favour the most completely documented profiles.
- Comparisons show schools in the order you added them. We never declare a “winner”.
- Paid placement: schools on paid plans may appear in featured spots, such as the home page and the top of country and programme pages. These spots are always labelled “Sponsored”.
What money never buys: a school's regulatory approval status, the status of any fact, its reviews or review score, or its position in a comparison you build.
Reviews
Reviews must describe your own genuine experience as a student or trial student of that school.
How we check reviews
We publish reviews only from signed-in accounts. A review is marked “Verified student” only after we have seen evidence that the author trained at the school, such as an enrolment document or a logbook page. Reviews without that evidence are not marked as verified.
What we don't allow
- Fake reviews, reviews written for payment or other benefits, or reviews by school staff about their own school or a competitor.
- Abusive, discriminatory or unlawful content, or personal data about other people.
We publish negative and positive reviews alike. Schools can reply publicly, but they cannot pay to remove, hide or change a review. We do not commission reviews or edit their meaning.
Reporting content and our decisions
If you believe something on School Metar is illegal or breaks these terms, report it to us (Digital Services Act, Article 16). Please tell us where it is, why you think it's a problem, and your name and email, unless the report concerns child sexual abuse material.
We review every report carefully and without undue delay, and tell you what we decided. If we remove or restrict content, or suspend an account, we explain the reasons to the person affected (Article 17). You can ask us to reconsider by replying to that message. You also keep every right to go to court.
We don't use automated tools to take moderation decisions.
Using the site
Please don't:
- send false enquiries, or enquiries in someone else's name;
- copy the database in bulk, scrape it, or republish profiles as your own;
- try to break, overload or get around the site's security;
- use the site to send spam or unlawful content.
We may restrict access for anyone who does, and will explain why as described above.
The AI assistant
The Metar Assistant is an artificial-intelligence chatbot. It answers using the information published on School Metar and general knowledge about pilot training. It can make mistakes and is not professional, legal, financial or medical advice.
Always check important facts on the school's profile and with the school or aviation authority. Please don't enter personal or sensitive information. How messages are handled is explained in the privacy policy.
Enquiries to schools
When you send an enquiry, we pass it to the schools you selected. Each school decides whether and how to reply, and is responsible for what it offers you. We don't guarantee a reply, a place, a price or any outcome. How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy.
Terms for flight schools
Free listings. We may list any flight school using information from public sources, always cited. Schools can request corrections at any time, free of charge.
Claiming a profile. A school can claim its profile once we've confirmed that the person represents it, usually through an email address on the school's official domain. The school is responsible for the accuracy of information it supplies, which is labelled “School reported”.
Paid plans. Paid plans are provided under a separate subscription agreement that sets out the price, billing and cancellation terms. Paid plans affect presentation and labelled placement only, as explained in “How results are ordered”.
Platform-to-business rules. In line with Regulation (EU) 2019/1150, we give schools at least 15 days' notice of changes to these terms that affect them. Before restricting or suspending a school's profile or plan, we give the reasons in writing. Schools can raise complaints with us by email, and we handle them free of charge and within a reasonable time.
Content and trademarks
The design, text, illustrations and compilation of School Metar belong to us. You may share links and quote short extracts with attribution.

Liability
We take care to keep information accurate and labelled, but we can't guarantee that it is complete or current. We are not liable for decisions made only on the basis of information on the site, or for the acts of schools.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury, for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.
Changes, law and disputes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and significant changes will be announced on the site. Schools receive notice as described above.
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of that country, and you may bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first; most issues can be resolved quickly. Consumers can also turn to an alternative dispute resolution entity. The list of approved entities in Portugal is published at consumidor.gov.pt.
